Behind the Scenes – Big Dreams Little Bear

The primary goal of the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is to promote sun bear conservation in Sabah through holistic approaches that involve animal welfare, rehabilitation, education and research.

Specifically, the centre is creating the capacity to rehabilitate and to release suitable orphaned and ex-captive bears back into the wild. We provide an improved long-term living environment for captive bears that cannot be released and make them the ambassadors of their own kind; to educate the public and to raise awareness about the species.

MTK 12

MTK12 collection captures the pinnacle beauty and pride of the Sabah people – the illustrious Mount Kinabalu. A variant of the common trails normal climbers would often take, the project team took the ‘road less travelled’ with the sole purpose to showcase never-before-seen locations and sceneries of the western part of the giant beauty.

This journey showcases an array of images of nature’s magic where the clouds and rocks meet and the horizon, maddeningly endless. Here at the mountain, nature commands and humans abide. Distinctly, it’s where the existence of eternal solitude is a reminder that the overpowering raw beauty of Mount Kinabalu is indeed glorious.

Project Semporna Trailer

Semporna photography collection is a showcase of breath-taking pictures of various islands off Semporna, a town located in Tawau at the East Coast of Sabah. The striking colours of island features are sharply photographed to illustrate the existence of life on these islands.

Wooden shanties built along the sea shore housed the sea gypsies who have claimed the islands as their home. Their makeshift houses are stark contrast to the golden sandy beaches where they are built on, reflecting old village life on the ‘other side of the neighbourhood’ of Sabah that is truthfully captured by the lenses of a modern camera.

Here, life is a perfect globe where the sun shines all day long above the calm sea and the moon dances to its lullabies as night falls. Here, life is an attic clock as it appears to stand still from the old days of the British era. Here, life is unity where men and nature co-exist in harmony.

Sandakan in 4 Minutes

Sandakan, formerly known as Elopura is the second-largest city in Sabah, East Malaysia, on the north-eastern coast of Borneo. It is located on the east coast of the island. It is the administrative centre of Sandakan Division and was the former capital of British North Borneo. Sandakan is known as the gateway for ecotourism destinations in Sabah, such as the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, the Rainforest Discovery Centre, Turtle Islands Park, Kinabatangan River and Gomantong Caves.

Baguan Island – Philippines

Baguan, a 29-hectare island, is one of the six islands comprising the Turtle Islands Wildlife Sanctuary (Philippines). It is considered one of the most important nesting sites for the endangered green turtles (Chelonia mydas). Baguan is categorized as a strict protection zone, because of its value for sea turtle conservation. In 2009 alone, 10,000 turtles nested on the island producing 1 million eggs (out of them, only 7,500 will survive to reach the reproductive age, 20 to 30 years after). Baguan is a 45-minute speedboat ride from Sandakan.
